Full days
Hi all!
My days here in Helsinki are full of things to do but wanted to check in and say that there soon will be a rehearsing diary from me in our NW site.
Today is the last rehearsing day and tomorrow Imaginaerum is out finally and I fly home tomorrow with my copy in my hand and its just wonderful to have it out finally. Tonight at midnight we do a signing session here in Helsinki at Anttila by Kamppi if you want to come by and meet us all:-)
Enjoy the day and let me know after you receive your CD what you thought about it. Will be nice to know:-)

I received the album yesterday already, while I expected it to get 2 december:) So that was a nice surprise.
Its hard for me to find the just words to describe this album...
Im really amazed by it, and especially your performance, Slow Love Slow is definitely one of my favorites, you gave me some goosebumps there:P
Every song is actually amazing..
It was a long wait, but definitely worth it!

ReplyDeleteFinally I have Imaginaerum in my hands too :). I received it yesterday (Thank you, Nightwish Shop! *.*). I was so sooo surprised when I came home and checked my mail box.
Since then I've been listening to the album non stop. It's so full of emotion, full of magic ... It's absolutely incredible :).
It shows so much dedication and hard-work.
I can't even pick a favourite song, because they are all so awesome. And your voice Anette ... Oh my ... you're FLAWLESS!!! ;D
Have fun tonight at the signing session. Unfortunately Portugal is way too far from Helsinki and I can't be there, but I'm sure it will be great :).

It will take a few day's for my CD to make the precious journey from magical musical Finland to Central California. I have listened to Imaginaerum from Youtube. You never cease to amaze me Anette. From the first note of Eva I have loved your voice! I love Imaginaerum. Everything I have always loved about Nightwish is there and more!

Mine arrived in the post yesterday. I loved every second of it - I wasn't overly enthusiastic about Storytime when it was released but it seams to work better in the album - all of the songs mesh together and flow, despite the vast amount of variation.

I wish I could come to your signing session, but I live on the other end of Europe. :)

ReplyDeleteI feel not so good writing this...I was searching for videos on YouTube and on the recommendation has appeared the new songs from the Imaginarium album...I wanted to move on and listen to them when they will be released but I was soooo curious how the album sounds and I clicked on the "Last Ride of The Day" and I got hypnotized.And this morning, I woke up (quite early) with my parents in my room wanting to listen to the new album :))

I got Imaginearum today at lunchtime. It has been going non-stop on repeat all afternoon. It got under my skin right away and made me feel this fuzzy feeling inside that only Nightwish can. There are some songs I really, really loved right away, but mainly there is no song that I don't like.
ReplyDeleteAs always when a band you love releases a new album there is this fear that it will sound "wrong". What really amazes me is that Nightwish continues to make new albums with a little different sound from before but it is always so spot on. It always feels like Nightwish. And it always gets under my skin and touches me deeply.
Send my best regards to the rest of the band! This album is great, wonderful and spot on!

The instrumental parts in "I want my tears back" are awsome! Just amazing!
And scaretale...words are missing..one of the greatest songs Tuomas has ever written.
Your voice is so ingenious and Marco ist at his best, too. Nice how you all transerfered the mood of Circus!
Song of myself is great. Once again you sing incrediblely. Unfortunatelly the song loses its genius when the poem begins. That´s a really nice idea, but it´s far too long and it (for me till now) just a part that I scip because nothing follows.
All in all a great Album and I need to listen to it many many times. And maybe some weak parts reveal as amazing as the rest.
It was worth to wait so long but please!!: Don´t let further 4 years pass us by till the next album

ReplyDeleteI received my copy of Imaginaerum yesterday and of cause I'm completely thrilled to finally have it in my hands, but I'm also quite puzzled. How is it even possible!?
Nevermind, I love it - it's simply perfect <3 So far I've heard the entire cd about 4-5 times, and it just gets better and better every time I listen to it! All of the songs are magnificent and, as it is for now, I can't even say which one I like the most - maybe "Scaretale", it took me completely by surprise ;D
Have fun at the signing session, and pass my greetings the guys if you see this in time ;)

ReplyDeleteWhat to say... It is certainly A LOT different then your previous releases! I really love it, but I've listened to it just for a couple of times now and I really feel I need more time to fully get the depth of it.

ReplyDeleteGot Imaginaerum yesterday! (I wasn't expecting it to arrive before friday, cause I live in Norway, so I had a mini-heartattack and almost died.) I LOVED IT! :D Havn't stopped listening to it since I got it ^^, I think it affected my religion-test but I've waited so long for this, so I really don't care. YOU'RE VOICE IS PERFECT ON THIS ALBUM!! :D The lyrics are epic and the music in general is MORE than marvellous! <3 <3 <3 I Want My Tears Back, Last Ride Of The Day and Song Of Myself are the favorites at this moment. (The Crow, The Owl And The Dove is also awesome.)
Oh, and Anette, please come to Norway! We need Nightwish!! D:

ReplyDeleteI can't stop listening to Imaginaerum, I totally love it! Slow Love Slow is surprising but successful, really. Scaretale is my favorite track, I really love the atmosphere. Of course all the others are excellent!

ReplyDeleteHi Anette, I got the CD with the mail today and I was a bit scared to put it in the CD-player simply because I had a lot of anticipation for the album itself.
ReplyDeleteBut I must say as soon as I started listening I was blown away not only by the great lyrics and the riffs etc., but most importantly by your voice. You sound NOTHING like you did on DPP - its actually hard for me to believe that it really was you singing back then :) - because this is way better!!
The only track I do not quite understand is Arabasque, but maybe its because I have a hard time figuring out what its doing in the middle of the album, hopefully I will get an answer to that whenever the movie itself is released. However for now im gonna enjoy this fantastic album. I've been a NW fan since the beginning, and to me this album ranks really high - And that says alot!! Hopefully I will be able to get my ticket for Falconer in Denmark in april, and hopefully I will enjoy just as much as last and when I went to Hartwell for the very last concert of the DPP-tour.

The first impact with album was really strange. Taikatalvi is a great song, but of course I don't speak Finnish, so I don't understand nothing. Hehe :) Storytime, as I said in the past, is EPIC! One of my favorite songs. In my "favorite songs list" are even Rest calm, Last ride of the day and Scaretale! Rest calm has awesome lyrics. I liked so much the end, when you are singing with the children's choir. Last ride of the day reminds me Escapist. I don't know why, but since Escapist is my favorite song of DPP I like even Last ride of the day. I must say that your vocals is much better than in DPP. Scretale!!!! This song scaring me. hehe :) You had a great idea to sing like a witch. Pity that you don't sing more on this song :( However I think you did a super great work here ;) I think that Ghost river and I want my tears back are typical NW-songs! I like Emppu's guitars and of course your and Marco's vocals. In I want my tears back I like Troy's work. Turn Loose The Mermaids is even a nice song, but I was not impressed. For "Song of Myself" I was expecting something like "The poet and the pendulum" or "Ghost Love Score". I like so much the sung part. I think that is soooo good. Of course the lyrics of whole song are great, but when I listen to the spoken part of this song I have to read the lyrics :) hehe.The Crow, The Owl And The Dove reminds me The islander. Is so good. Your voice here is so sweet.

I've been listening to the radiorock.fi exclusive, and my impression was pretty positive. I immediately loved I Want My Tears Back (and it got a BIG reaction on Twitter, too) as well as The Crow, the Owl and the Dove. In fact the only track I'd say I definitely don't like and there isn't much chance of me liking is Scaretale. But apart from that this is a very fine album and you and the guys, as well as everyone else who worked on the album, should be tremendously proud of it. :)

Imaginaerum... wow, so many thoughts. Much, much less "frantic" than DPP. I know DPP was somewhat tense because Nightwish was still introducing you as the new vocalist, but now you all sound SO MUCH MORE RELAXED AND COMFORTABLE. <3 Imaginaerum really showcases your voice well. I love it! Destined to be a Power Metal classic.

ReplyDeleteI`ve just heard 'Imaginaerum' on Radio Rock tonight, and it was such an amazing experience... I've been extremely excited about this album ever since I've heard about it, because I've been following Nightwiah ever since my early teenage years, but being able to actually listen to the real thing... I already have my head full with possible images from the film, and I know it will be absolutely wonderful. You've done such an awesome job! The songs are definitely suited for your voice, and it shows how much heart you put into each and every one of them. I litterally got chills when listening to some parts of the album, and by the time I got to 'Rest Calm', i couldn't have been more convinced that no one in the entire world could give this song such a beautiful touch as you did. Also, 'Turn Loose the Mermaids' reminded me of that awesome moment when I first saw 'The Islander' video and I thought 'There's nothing as beautiful to the ears and to the eyes as this is'. Thank you for this beautiful present, and I can't wait to get my copy of Imaginaerum! Good luck with the practice, though I know it will go well, and next time i see you again in Canada, it will be the most amazing show of my entire life :)

But not easy accessible, first listening impression was like: ooh that's not what i expected. But every time i replayed it it growed in me, and now i think it's the best Nightwish album ever. Maybe the best music album ever.

I am so happy to read everyone's comments about how much you bring to Nightwish and to us as fans. I have been into Nightwish since 2003. I am so NOT on this 'old Nightwish'/ 'new Nightwish' bandwagon people choose to ride and battle about Tarja's absence. To me she is not Nightwish, the 5 of you are. I was never 'her' fan, but always a fan of the band. With that, I cannot express how happy I am that your talent, your heart, and the part of your life that you give us everyday is with Nightwish.
ReplyDeleteI have read a lot of comments about how 'your voice has gotten so great'. I have to negate that by saying it has always been just the icing Nightwish needed on its cake! Perhaps people think it has evolved because Tuomas had three years to compose what has showcased your vocal abilities very well. incredible range!

Tack för cdn, jag lyssnade på den efter att jag kom hem, och på slutet av Song of myself, i Love, när alla era nära och kära pratade.. Det var så vackert, jag fick tårar i ögonen.

Jag blev så darrig när jag skulle träffa er, att mina händer skakade. Min systers pojkvän retade mig för det >.< Men vi fick bild med Troy! Sätter den på min blog senare. :)
Men jag blev så glad när jag ropade "Sanokaa moi!" (säg hej!) och Jukka ropade tillbaka "Moi!!" och gjorde en min :) Men fotot blev suddigt :( Men anyway, ett av de bästa moments med er, måste jag säga.. Tillsammans med Emppus reaktion då jag visade en "skylt" åt honom där det stod "Tee temppu, Emppu!". Och jag hoppas du tyckte om min "skylt" där det stod Ever Dream.. Gjorde den redan år 2007, men det blev aldrig av att visa den för er.. Har en med där det står "Helt rätt, Anette!" =) Call me silly, men jag är stolt, eftersom de alla är gjorda med Once-stilen. =)
Och så hamnade vi på dvdn, tydligen :D Någon kom och sade att de filmar för nästa dvd, och sa att vi skulle skrika så högt vi kan :P
Och förresten, jag skulle ha velat sjunga åt er. Fast jag vet inte om ni skulle ha tyckt om det, så.. Men ändå.

ReplyDeleteI'm listening to Imaginaerum right now (over and over again actually) and I'm really impressed. I've been waiting for this CD so long and I was wondering how would it sound like.. After releasing "Storytime" I was more and more curious and now.. for me Imaginaerum is a masterpiece! Your voice is awesome, the songs are incredible.. for now I'm in love with 'I want my tears back' and 'Scaretale' but the whole album sounds like a kind of fairytale or story - it was supposed to be like that, doesn't it? ;)
Anyway I guess I'll be listening all the time now - till I remember every word of every song (yes, I do it when I really love a CD).
Now even more I can't wait to see your show and hear all these songs live!

ReplyDeleteI heard the whole album at Rock Radio...I don't have any words to say...I am in love with it...I will buy it as soon as it is out here in Greece...I have to say that i am in schock with how you can change your voice in so many ways an i love it...especially in "song of myself"...I loved your voice in Dark Passion Play but i didn't expect such a variety...i have to say that you are the best choice for Nightwish and i think that Tuomas had a lot in his mind when he choose you...Tarja has an amazing voice but she cant have that variety that you have...you can sing everything...she cant so...you are better than she would be at this point of Nightwish music... Seriously, I loved your voice already before, but with this album you really showed what you are capable of. :) You have such a versatile voice, when I listen to songs like Slow, Love, Slow and Scaretale it's sometimes hard to believe the singer is the same. :D
Imaginaerum is a real masterpiece in every aspect. So full of different emotions and visions but all songs still have something similar which binds them together and creates The Album. No fillers in this album, just great songs after great songs.
Thanks to you and the band for giving us this early Christmas present. :)

ReplyDeleteWell, I would imagine you’re home by now, so I hope you had a safe trip back. I read your diary on the rehearsals, and it was so wonderful to hear that everything went so well and that everyone had so much fun playing with the songs. I’ve also seen the pictures from the rehearsals and from the signing session – I really loved the earrings you wore to the signing session, they looked beautiful on you. Seems like everything went well and it was so nice to see everyone together looking so happy :).
So, on another note, I have listened to Imaginaerum, many times now, in fact. Well, where do I begin? First of all, it was a simply awing experience to listen to it, truly beautiful…so many breathtaking moments.
It explored all types of new elements and fresh territories, while still staying very true to Nightwish’s roots. There were even quite a few things about it that seemed to stem all the way back to Angels Fall First and Oceanborn, which was beautifully stunning to hear, of course. It was very unpredictable in a perfect way, and wonderfully unique. I believe it was a wonderful balance of different emotions and concepts, and I feel it explored the lighter and darker sides of both life and imagination wonderfully.
For me, it was better than Dark Passion Play in nearly every way, and I will always appreciate Dark Passion Play, for I feel it was a very important growing experience for the entire band, and without it I don’t believe Nightwish could be where it is now.
As it is, musically Imaginaerum is diverse and stunning; the acoustic and Celtic influences were very nice. As Tuomas’ lyrics usually are, of course, the lyrics were deep, powerful, and beautifully written. The orchestra sounded very nice, it was nice to hear it used a little less, for as much as I believe the orchestra is always beautiful and a very important aspect of Nightwish, I feel it has been overpowering at certain times in the past. The choirs sounded lovely as always, and the children’s choir was breathtaking…it was the perfect touch for many of the songs, and it was a wonderfully unique and interesting new aspect. Vocally, once again, it was breathtaking. You and Marco have never sounded better, and some of the chemistry between your two voices, especially in songs like Ghost River and The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove, was stunning.
I think you sang very well on Dark Passion Play, but I can really hear how far your voice has come, and having songs written properly for your voice also helps considerably, of course. It was really nice to hear so many different sides of your voice, and it was especially nice to hear more of your falsetto – you have such a beautiful, soft, and angelic one. It was also so interesting to hear your vocals on Scaretale – it was a whole new side of your voice and I loved it, it was so unique and powerful, and actually quite creepy and disturbing – in a good way, of course. Particularly the way you say “Oh, sweet poison. Bite me, bite me!”.
I think this album has really let us see so much more of your true talent and potential.
So, at the moment, some of my favorite songs off the album are Song of Myself, The Crow, the Owl, and the Dove, Scaretale, and Ghost River. The lyrics in Song of Myself, especially the poem at the end…is very powerful…so deeply and beautifully sorrowful, and the combination of different voices speaking the words only added to it.
Well, I could truly go on and on about it, but I suppose I should probably stop here. On a whole, I loved it. It was beautiful balance of darkness, sorrow, mystery, grace, hurt, elegance, anger, fear, and then light, hope, curiosity, faith, wonder, dreams, beauty, and love, amongst many other elements, of course :).
My congratulations and respect to all the band members and everyone else involved in creating the album.

Anette, her voice is so beautiful. I loved your performance in Slow, Love, Slow. It's an amazing song and seductive that I never thought to find in Nightwish. It was somewhat surprising and magical all the songs that I liked just the beginning.

At first listen, I didn't know what to think. But that was just it. I was trying to think about the music too much without just sitting back, and 'feeling' the music. This is an album that must be 'felt' in order to appreciate. And I find the more I listen to it, the more I 'feel' it, and the more I absolutely love it!

This album is perfect. I can't say anything else. This is so emotive; I cry, laugh, sing, dance, be amazed. At the moment I like the most songs as Last Ride of the Day, Song of Myself, Scaretale and Taikatalvi (but of course I like also all the other songs).

you and marco are acting a lot with your voices, which is really impressive. further the band instruments are more in the "front" than the orchestra, which is better in my opinion, cause you are a band and the orchestra supports you.

ReplyDeleteI absolutely love the album! And Anette, I think you have grown as a singer if you compare Imaginaerum to DPP. And the high note on "Last ride of the day" with vibrato was really impressive! I don't think I've heard you singing like that before.
The songs are masterpieces like only Tuomas can write them, so I can't wait for the movie!! And I also can't wait to listen to the album in HQ and to see the artwork and read the lyrics :p
So even though there's youtube, still waiting hehe :)

ReplyDeleteIt has always been hard for accepting Tarja's departure for the band.
And I must say that was disappointed the band decided not to chose a classical trained singer to replace her.
DPP was different and too different for me, hard to listen to.
Knowing the band's potential and unable to let go the love I have for Nightwish, I decided to give Imaginaerum a shot and I'm glad I did :-)
The album is a pure piece of art and maybe one of the most important thing to me is that you sound great on it Anette :-) You bring something new and fresh to the band :-)
You gained my heart, and made me love Nightwish again. The band sounds different, different but amazing! Thank you very much for the great work you brought on this album! :-)

ReplyDeleteI finally received my CDs today! First of all I want to say: really nice package, I mean, the front-cover, the pages with the lyrics and the other 'covers' of the songs, the vision of the discs and all that! Incredible well done!
And then, I have to congratulate you (as well as the rest of the band)! In this case words are really not enough to describe what I feel! The lyrics are just as amazing as I expected them to be because I had no doubt in Tuomas; the music is on an upper level from the DPP, I think, the instrumentals just blown me away from the Earth ;D And also, your singing is so full of surprises, just perfect! Not a single bad song! Once again, congratulations!
I still hope I'll see you in Bulgaria on this tour!

ReplyDeleteDuring these two days I have been listening to your album six times already and always when I'm listening to it, I find something new from it. I really love it and in my opinion it's the best album from Nightwish (though I love them all). It's so symphonic, epic and it has so many great elements in it. While listening to it I really feel like I'm in another world which is full of ghost circuses, mermaids and rollercoasters. At the moment my favourite songs are Scaretale, Turn Loose The Mermaids, Song Of Myself and The Crow, The Owl And The Dow. Those last mentioned three songs brought tears into my eyes when I listened to them the first time and they still do. And I love your vocals Anette!!! You really are the perfect singer for Nightwish, just wanted to tell you that. It was also great to meet you in that signing session. So, I really want to thank you all and I can't wait to see you on tour!! <3 :)

ReplyDeleteI finally listened to Imaginaerum, and I gotta tell you, this album is a masterpiece in every level. Every song has its magic, and also I felt the order is very important, it's like you guys took me to a journey for 75 minutes, the most amazing experience! I love Slow, Love, Slow, I never thought I would to be honest, but your voice sounds incredibly seductive and the lyrics are just beautiful, I could totally picture you singing it in that beautiful red dress; amazing solo by Emppu at the end. Ghost River is one fucking amazing song! sorry for my vocabulary, I can't stop listening to it, Scaretale wow one of the best songs Nightwish has ever made, it's amazing how this song scares you at one moment and then makes you laugh, it's totally wicked and creepy, and your voice WOW girl you totally nailed it, awesome job! The crow, the owl and the dove is beautifully written and you and Marco sound so good together, beautiful voices. Last ride of the day, made me cry, I don't know, maybe because the album was reaching to its end, and the title is very appropriate. Turn loose the mermaids is one beautiful song, you sound so peaceful, I enjoyed Song of myself too, but the poems at the end are kinda boring, but the song is equally amazing! and the last song Imaginaerum was the best summary of the whole album I could see the credits rolling already, can't wait to watch the movie! I loved every second of this incredible masterpiece! I don't know what else to tell you, this album is amazing! Thank you so much guys for giving us such beautiful music.
PS. I can't believe you recorded the whole album with pain killers, you've never sounded better!

I've listened to the album now in the middle of the night after work. So I'm tired. /-) But happy! It's just amazing! I've gone through all emotions. "Love" made me cry. And I've always HATED too much talking in a song! But this time... it was so touching.
ReplyDeleteI guess I already told you how much I love your voice especially on Slow Love Slow and Scaretale. Squeeaaaaling PIGS! - that's the best, haha! :D Scaretale is so crazy song that I had to listen to it twice right away just to check if it was real or just a really weird dream...
Besides these, my favorites are still I Want My Tears Back and "Bird-song", and now I totally fell in love with Mermaid-song. <3 And I hope you do Rest Calm at your concerts. ;) Something tells me that's going to be even more epic live, if you have chosen it on your set-list.

The album is fantastic. In my opinion, "Imaginaerum" is Nightwish's best and most solid album to date. Each song is flawless and a couple of those even made me cry: "Turn Loose the Mermaids" (which still makes me cry everytime I listen to it) and "Song of Myself". "Scaretale" is also one of my favorites of the album.

First half maybe a bit to theatrical for me, but you guys sure make amends for that on the last half. Especially "Rest Calm" sounds to me as a new masterpiece from Nightwish!
