Nose

I invested in this yesterday to help my aching sinuses. Has anyone tried this with good results? So far its painful but I hope it'll help.

  2. Hi Anette, this is Andrea from Germany. You will have very good results with this nose-can, Take it with warm water and salt.Maybe you can get a medicine named "Gelomyrthol". This will be good for you, too. Drink a lot of mallow tea and do less sports.I wish you all the best and I'm looking forward to see you in Nürnberg. With lovely regards.

  4. Andrea: Hi and thanks! I´ll check for that medicine. Is it a natural medicine or prescription? And yeah, have cancelled my exercise for today and will rest.

Polyxeni: Yes, so painful! But I hope it can work. I take salt and water and mix in mine so like sea water;=)

  7. Hi Anette,
I have used one similar to this and it works wonders for me. I think it hurts at first if the nasal congestion is bad. But once it starts to clear up it can be quite soothing. Sometimes I also use menthol crystals in hot water and inhale the steam. Anyway, I hope you get better soon.
    :) *hugs*

  10. Hi, Anette!

I've had my neti pot for a few years now and I love it. My only problem is I sometimes forget to let the water cool down before I use it. Other than that, no problems! :)

I hope it works for you!

  12. I just bought one of those to my sick boyfriend last week. He says it has worked very well and he recommends it! He also says it isn't painful at all, so I started to wonder if you are using it the right way? Are you sure you are using the right temperature water and the right kind of salt?

I read the instructions and it said that if you use wrong salt it might hurt. You should use fine sea salt (NaCl) which you can buy from grocery store. The salt shoud NOT be mineral salt or salt with iodine.

All the best for you Anette! Puss och kram från Finland!

  13. I've never seen anything like that in the UK, looks scary but fascinating!

From comments it seems like it must work.. maybe I wish we did have them in the UK!

I very much hope it helps, I can sympathize very much with getting sinus problems and pain.. get well soon :)

  14. Hi Anette,

I have not seen anything like that here in the states, and especially because I work in part of a pharmacy. Too me it looks like an oversized tobacco pipe we sell behind our counter with the ciggarettes not something to flush out the sinus cavity. I guess design is everything though. Hope you get well soon.

  15. Hi Annette,
Thus, a nasal rinse I had also sometimes prescribed by a doctor because my nose because of my pollen allergy was too fast.
It has helped me personally is not. Firstly, there was the handling, somehow I always managed drowning me almost myself.
After the third use, I have no improvement with my stuffy nose filled. When my mother went with me to a salt water pool and free was my nose. : D

In a cold also helps me a camomile steam bath. Just a bowl of hot water and two bags of chamomile tea. Head over the bowl, towel over and let about twenty minutes head underneath. Also has a nice side effect, then you can clean the skin better.;)

Have a nice day and much success with the nasal lavage;).

  18. Hello Anette,
Your singing is so incredibly amazing/beautiful and you did such an amazing performance at the Gibson show (I was there, thank you for coming to Los Angeles!)

I don't know if you have Vicks vaporub or an equivalent in Sweden but if you do, that is your best bet. It's a strong cream that you put on the chest or put on a warm, damp cloth and place against your face, and it will make you feel so much better. Also, there is a Vicks inhaler that you can keep in your purse and take with you on tour (it saved my life once when I had to fly sick). :)

  19. Hei Anette, never tried that but my sister says it works! :)

And I know that in Norway they recommend to drink tea with fenugreek (bockhornsklöver) and take "solhattdråper" (no idea what it is in English) to those who often have problems with sinuses...

I hope you'll be fine! :) And I want to thank you once again for the fantastic show in Joensuu! I've had some sad days on my holiday because my older dog is getting sicker all the time and I don't know how long she can make it, so thinking back to the concert has given me lots of power.

  20. My mother keeps telling me to get one of those since I hate nasal sprays and prefer more natural things. I was told by my massage therapist that in some people it hurts, some have no problems. All I do know is the water is to be warm and the salt water warm is the best and most natural. I will be watching hoping to find out if the other times hurt you since I am such a chicken!! >.<

  21. Hey!

I see this 'thing' for the first time and it looks painful..
I always stick to more usual thing; spray.
But of course, the best of all is sea water so since you are using this strange thing and put salty water in it, as you said in one comment, I believe you will be better soon.

    Get well soon!

  22. I've have that one and regularly used it really helps, especially with allergies. You just need to be really careful with the right amount of salt and the right warmth of water, otherwise it will be painful. But I'm sure you'll get used to it, it's sure worth it! :)

  23. They're really great. You do want to make sure to use purified water - I boil a teakettle full and let it cool down. Water that hasn't been purified can carry bacteria that could cause infections. If the solution stings, you might want to add slightly less salt, especially since you've only just started using it. I find regular use of mine has cut down on the amount of illnesses I get. I hope you have good results!

  24. Hi,Anette!
Yes,these medicines with seawater help a lot, but there's another thing that helps in sinus infection.
Boil some water and put some camomile in it. Take it off from the fire and then breathe deeply the steam through the nose with your mouth shut(it would be better if you put on a towel just to make the process longer). The first few seconds the sinuses hurt like hell, but it's worth it. This works best by having a cup of camomile tea with a lot of honey after that. But if you do this, you shouldn't go outside in cold weather or sing.
Besides the nose, this is also great for the skin (hehe, what a +) - it cleans the pores excellent :-)
This should be done 2 or 3 times a day, and within a week you should be good. My mom taught me this, she's a pediatrician.
This always works for me, I recommend it to you.
    Hugs,
    Thea

  25. My brother is a singer and has to use this when he gets anything going on with his sinuses. He had some throat problems (he had to have surgery), and so he's very particular about not having mucus or anything 'bad' on his throat! It works for him! I only wish it becomes less painful for you! Can't wait to see you back in the states! ;)

  26. I have used a ceramic version of this Neti-Pot for almost five years now with good success. It can be messy (water wise)so I find it is most successful if you stand in a tub or shower when using the pot in an effort to reduce the mess. While it will not necessarily *cure* sinus infections I have found that it personally reduces the duration and the intensity of the infection and

  27. Hmm... It's not meant to be painful at all.
Actually you shouldn't feel a thing. Well, of course if the nose is really stuffed there is some pressure but otherwise you shouldn't even feel the water.
You sure the salt percent and your posture is right? One even spoonful (the one that came with the package) of fine salt to one "rhino" of water. That's close to human's body salt percent, not that of sea water. :)

    Get well soon!

  30. I had terrible sinus problems. My doctor prescribed Nasonex nose spray. It's the only thing that has ever worked for me. Hope you feel better soon! :)

  31. Well, I'm a bit late commenting, but, having some high-powered vaporizers in the house might help. Dry winter air is the enemy of sinuses. Also, boiling some fresh peppermint in water and inhaling the vapor through your nose may help. The mint will act as a coolant and might relieve some pain. Some time in a sauna or with a hot cloth on your face might help also. I hope that helps. Feel better hun. ^_^

  34. Hi, Anette!
I've used Neti-Pot (in Finland it's called 'Sarvikuono', in english 'Rhino') for many years and it has helped me. As many have written you should use fine sea salt. A good advice is that if you taste the water in the pot before rinsing your nose then the saltiness and warmth should be like tasting your tears. If the rinse water is too salty or too cold or too hot then the nose rinsing could be really painful!
I love you and your voice, so let's hope your sinuses will get better and you will be well on the whole Imaginaerum Tour!

  38. Hello Anette!
Oh, I'm so sorry you're not good. I'm sending you a healing hug! It won't help the health but the spirit a bit, I hope.
Thank you for sharing the sites from where you buy your clothes, and the one about the hair products. Later I'll look at them with more attention. Now I must prepare because in less than a hour I have a meeting with a piano teacher! I have my speech ready and this is it:
Dear Sir, I'm here for one reason. I need help to learn this music. I know it's not Bach or Chopin, but this music brought me back to the piano and it's what I'm ready to work for. If you want to use your skill to teach me how to play Nightwish's songs, I'm in.
Aaaah! I'm so exicted! Maybe I'll start to see some good results! *_*
I wish you a quick recovery. With Love. <3

  41. It works very well! but it is not recommended to use if you have an inflammation. and use salt without iodine, and not sea salt .. both will be more painful, and the sea salt can potentially scratch you up :/
