I am so tired...Stjärnan seems to be ready for castration and you should hear her...she purrs, screams, screams higher and just continues all night and all morning....tonight I really need ear plugs and then tomorrow I will call the vet to get an operation time immediately... I feel sorry for her too, cause I can understand that she is wondering what´s happening in her body and cant control it;=(
Today we´re going home to my sons god-mother who also is my childhood friend. She has also made some changes in her appartment so will be nice to see how it looks;=)
The snow storm and bad weather are still haunting Sweden and it´s boring...hope you have better weather wherever you are;=)

Oh, something new! In Sweden is still snow storm, but in Poland snow is melting and every evening is very big rain there. And about temperature - today is 0, no - 15 or - 20, so I think spring is coming. :-)

Luckily for us here in holland the weather is quite good, the snow is finally gone and yesterday we even had a whole day of sunlight!
But on the weather they say that there's still a big chance for snow till the beginning of April so...O_O
So cool you're going to see your childhood friend, it reminds me of mine too.
I used to live in the east of holland in a village next to a city called Arnhem, I had a best friend there since I was 2, and we used to spend almost every day together playing and later just hanging out outside, walking the dogs etc.
But then we moved away to a town in the south called 's-Hertogenbosch, and I can hardly ever see her now. But then a month or so ago we somehow talked again and now she's coming over this summer and is going on vacation with us.
It's really cool to see that even though you haven't seen someone in a really long time, some things and friendships just never change =).
Anyways, be carefull out in the snow Anette!

ReplyDeleteAnd yay for snow storms -- we had one here in Helsinki just last night. And -20 C and if you add the wind effect, probably close to -35 C... O__O How fitting, just for the FME and Helsinki Metal Meeting :p Couldn't help but smile how all those foreign metal fans got a real treat for their money this year -- cold, harsh, frozen Finnish winter exotic at its best! :D Calls for some genuine Last of the Wilds -spirit to enjoy these weathers, LOL! :D
Though not so nice for us locals, we're getting pretty sick of this already :p The venue, Cable Factory, was so freezing I had to leave already before the last bands and get a steaming hot bath right when I came home -- can't remember the last time when I had been that frozen to the core! Brrr... Otherwise, nice event! :)

In my part of Germany there has been a weather like spring for two days. It was still cold but the sun was shining brighter and longer. This morning it had snow again but I hope it will melt away in the afternoon. Wish you to have soon spring weather too! - At least you would not have to starve for you having sushi for guarantee ;)

my little Kitten is 5 months now & we took him to the vets to get his injections, we took him to the vets in my partners jumper haha no cage!! He is so cool and relaxed he stayed in the jumper for the whole journey....next time we take him he has to have his little bits chopped off....oh dear but the vet says its better for his health....i will miss them little cute fury things (you know what iam talking about hehe)

Sorry to hear about that. I have two dogs and I can imagine how uncomfortable is for you and for Stjärnan, even though dogs and cats have some diferences and I had never a cat.
ReplyDeleteI could have castrated my dogs when I had the chance some years ago, but I end up not doing it. Fortunately they are still healthy (thanks heaven) and those times full of energy have gone.
Stjärnan is young, that's too much hormone for her to hold on. But I hope things get better for you and for her if you decide to castrate her. :)

Mucki (my cat) was that kinda crazy, that she started all of the sudden to roll on the ground through the whole appartment.
And she hated me for 3 Days when we took her to the vet ;) may thats why i putted her in the transport box. but it was ok...god that was round about 16 years ago (time passes by so quickly)

ReplyDeleteI'm sad for your Stjärnan (wow, this name is so different! What it means?). I have a cat called Isis. She had 5 babies, my mum gave 4 of them.
Today I have Isis and her puppy, called Iris. After the first litter, I took her to be castrated by a vet. Is sooo hard to live together with a cat that is not castrated... unfortunalety, the castration is inevitable. Iris is castrated too.
But relax, to castrate a cat is not the end of the world, but you have be careful for your cat on the early days. =) Cats are cats, you know, independent of castration. hehe
I hope your cat be good!

ReplyDeleteoh, cat screams can be an annoyance, but I believe castration is a good option for everybody if the cat is living always in a house, as your cat will not run away to find partner and you'll be able to sleep again haha =)
I keep findind a bit ironic that people where I live would love to have some snow, but for now we have to stand an odd weather, because the air is SO cold, like ice hitting your face, but the sun shines so hard it burns you, and sometimes blind you. haha, it's quite crazy.

ReplyDeleteEVERYBODY (except serious catbreeders) should castrate their cats, both male and female ones. There are so many unwanted cats born and sold or given away for nothing.
ReplyDeleteThere are many families that buys a cute little kitten for the kids to keep over summer holidays, and then they leave the kitten in the woods, to either die of starvation, decease or get hurt.
Domesticated cats of today CANNOT survive and live on their own.
When you get a cat, you make a commitment, to care and provide for the animal as long as it lives, which can be up to 20 years, sometimes even more.
You should never buy a cat that is younger that 12 weeks. It's tempting, the little kitten is so sweet, but before that age, it still needs its mother, to learn the right social behavour. Cats that left their mother too early often develop behaviour disorders.
And, if you live in the countryside, far from heavy trafficated roads (which I assume you do, I am naive enough to think nobody who lives in a city lets their cat out the door without a person guarding it and on a leash), and let it go outside sometimes on its own, it's even more important to get it castrated.
A male cat will not come home pregnant, sure. But even if you don't care for the female cats out there...
Your cat will get into fights, for exaple he might get an eye clawed out (just one example), and is more likely to get infected with different deceases and viruses.
A female cat that runs around might become a mother before she's ready. A cat shouldn't have kittens until it's at least one year old.
And, NO, for the love of god, a cat does NOT become "gay" if you castrate it...
What happens is that without constant hormonal changes it is less likely to get into fights, likely to stop peeing everywhere, and more likely to live a long life.
The perfect time to castrate your cat it when is about half a year old.
Ideally it should be done before it gets "crazy" and starts screaming for partners...
A female cat does not at all have to have had a litter before, that is just a myth.
To Anette: You have a Birman, they are especially sensitive to the sedation given at surgeries. You should take this up with your veterinarian, there are actually a fair amount of Birmans who have died because the vet didn't think about this.
This was a long message, and I don't mean to preach, it's just that this is so incredibly important to me.
You can't pretent to care about cats or animals at all if you don't reflect over this.
Because, yes this is horrible what can happen, but it's REALITY and happens way too often. There are so many homeless abandoned cats out there.

ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, as far as I know, she will not be ok for castration until it's over.. (it's not allowed to do this kind of surgery while on her period) and it will last about two weeks.

Other question: as i said i have a cat, he is one years (i think). Your cats causing damage or be quiet? Mine sometime causing damage, today he threws the earth of the pot of a plant in the floor. He scratchs his nails everywhere and yesterday we got a new sofa and armchairs. I hope taht he will grow will become quieter!

Sorry to hear you're having such unrestful sleep. Cats are alot of work and need lots of tolerance but I wouldn't change a thing about them. However, they can be a pain in the a** and wonder why we put up with them.
ReplyDeleteI had a siamese for years and she howelled, meowed, growled and hissed all the time. She was very vocal and agressive to some people she didn't know, but she was my baby and went everywhere I did. I mean moving too...she was born in Port Elizabeth like me! LOL Needless to say she spent a lot of time in quantine and gave me the 'BACK' for a week or so after, but she was such a wonderful companion and purred so much when she lay beside you.
My very first cat was a Birma when I was growing up. They are very beautiful cat.

ReplyDeletepoor Stjärnan kitty and poor you, because of her screams! I once had the "chance" to hear my best freinds cat doing that too. The cat was in the backyard and i was in the appartment on the 2nd floor and after a few hours I couldn't stand it anymore. It sounded like she was suffering terribly and it was very painful for my ears!
Hope your Stjärnan will be fine after the sterilisation!

I have two kittens and we had them fixed as soon as it was possible to do so. Mostly since they are bother and sister and a boy and girl. The thing that I didn't understand is that for the girls they really aren't supposed to play, jump, run...basically they can't be a cat for the whole couple of weeks that the sutures are in. It was terrible. I hope that Stjärnan can handle it better because she is not as young. Also it is really important to get her fixed as soon as possible because that howling is her mating call. If male cats hear it they will urinate on your building where you live and possibly kill each other to try to fight for the female.
