Hi everyone and thanks for all your nice inputs. I have been to my sister who is a nurse and I will call the doctor tomorrow to ask if I can have the vaccine on prescription, cause then she can give me the shot. Otherwise I think I´ll try and get the normal flu vaccine like I always do every year. As many of you said, most of us have had flus before and through that have a bit more immune defense against this flu, hopefully.
I am not afraid of this flu and know I can take it since I am a strong and healthy person, but since I do meet people in my job all the time and fly so much and since I have a person close by to me which currently have cancer I do feel it would be better to have the shot. My son got the shot in school last week so he is ok and didnt get any side effects from it yet.
This flu and everything around it has so many different aspects but here in Sweden everyone gets the vaccine for free and right now that´s what they do. So here they dont want it to be spread. I dont know if thats good or bad. They are quite into the whole thing with giving vaccine for everything. When we are kids we get vaccine for all the typical childrens deseases (measles, pertussis, mumps and rubella) as well as for polio, tetanus and diphteria.
I have a doctors appointment in the hospital tomorrow for another thing so I´ll ask that doctor about what he or she thinks.
I guess we never will know what´s best or not when it comes to these things...

ReplyDeleteI really wish we would get the vaccin here too in Holland, but here only doctors and hospital personell get it.
I'm really scared to get it cause even though they say it's just like normal flu there have already died many people who were in perfect health before.
I hope you can get it soon so at least you don't get sick.

I filled out my form to get my shot, 'cause I get the shot in school. We're still waiting for the vaccines to arrive, and they'll be here in like a few weeks. We've run out of them already.
ReplyDeleteMy mom got it. She's a nurse too, and she said it's safe. Still, I am a little bit uncertain about it. My mom wasn't planning on getting the vaccine, but she got it because where she is a nurse, she is around it all the time.
My friends have had H1N1. It's been around the school.
Well thats not fair, I would have had to pay 30 dollars if I had got mine!!! I am liking Sweden more and more.

You're right Annete, we dont know what to think about this. On one hand I think if the vaccine is good it would be good to get it, but on the other hand, it the virus is not so dangerous maybe it would be better to let it spread and make everybody inmune and probably it will disappear. Some people say this is a virus that some years ago lots of people suffered (now old people) that's why doctors have said the virus mainly affects young people, becouse old ones are immune. So... who knows!! :S

ReplyDeleteFortunately I am strong and healthy too, but I know that this flu is dangerous and killing, as well as the other flus, and sometimes I think about those people who are passing through a difficult situation because of H1N1, that's not good for anyone. Hope world can overcome this pandemic flu.
Although I think people have stronger immune defense when they live in cold countries/weather, is that true that more people become illness in cold countries/weather? What do you think?
All this is a bit confuse for me. I live in a hot city, the temperatures are always between 15ºC and 35ºC, and I don't get cold often.

Unfortunately here in Japan the vaccine this year is just for people who has some congenital ill, old people, babies and pregnant women and they have to pay a price which is very high. For the people who hasn't any ill or isn't pregnant or whatever the vaccine will come just next year, but the doctors are saying that the virus is suffering changes and becoming stronger, so the vaccine isn't 100% guarantee =/.
I think if we eat healthy food, do exercises and have a good lifestyle, we can be protected from this virus, even though without the vaccine, but if we get the flu, just go to the doctor and take some medicines. This is not a thing we MUST be scarred about. All of us are subjective to get this flu =/.
So, I hope you can take the vaccine as soon as possible =D.

I don't know if the regular vaccine works.. I don't think so, but is surely better than nothing, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThe problem here in Brazil was that the flu got here really fast, right on the beginning.. No one knew anything about it, there was no vaccine, no information, nothing. And it was winter, so the coldest cities (in the south, where I live) were very injured by this flu.
Lucky for you guys you already have the vaccines and all the information you need on how to prevent from this cold. It's not THAT dangerous, but we can never be TOO careful, right?
Good to know your kid already took the shot and I hope you can take one too. This flu can be very dangerous for people who are sick already and even if you didn't have anyone close to you sick, there's always people on airplains, trains, stores and everything. The best thing to do is to take the shot, wash your hands several times a day, cover the mouth and nose when you cof or sneeze and open the windows and let air in (I doubt you're going to do that since it's snowing already.. buuut hehe )

ReplyDeleteIt is recommeded to get a vaccine shot not during a flu pandemia but before it.
When one gets a vaccine shot, it means that his immunity will be weakened for the two following weeks. One becomes less strong to avoid infection or to cope with it.
So, if there is no pandemia at your location yet, it's better to take the vaccine as soon as possible.
But if there is a lot of people sneezing, coughing and having a high temperature, the vaccine will be harmful for you, as it is too late to take a shot.
And, if you have to communicate with lots of people, try to do it in the open air or at least in a ventilated room. A nice ventilation makes the flu concentration not so dangerous, and the immunity will cope with the deluted and scanty virus.

ReplyDeleteI live in Canada (Vancouver to be more precise), and there have been talks of the H1N1 vaccines from the media. There are certain people who have priority over others (pregnant women for example), but nevertheless, anyone can get them. Canada and Sweden are alike, and if I'm not mistaken, it is free here too. However, there have been shortages of the vaccine across the country.
I hope it's not the same problem in Sweden. I wish you, your family and loved ones the best of health. <3

Here in Finland they have divided people to groups by how dangerous it can be to get the swine flu. But in my municipality I think they are still giving vaccine to children under 35 months. Its free for us though, the state is paying it for us.
ReplyDeleteI actually think my sister had swine flu, she got very ill last week and came home. But she was very careful and we all were of course and no one else in our home got sick.
Im sorry to hear about the person close to you having a cancer. Cancer is a bit personal thing for me since my grandfather died in cancer while I was under 5 years old and a bit over 3 years ago my friend died too. But Im still very proud of her, the cancer came back 3 times. The third time was too much for her but she said to me she is so relieved that she can finally get away from all the pain. So I dont really grieve for her anymore because its all better for her now.
But I hope your close-one will get better and heal :)

Bul as my doctors say "this illness is just like ordinary flu,we just haven't got a normal vaccine.The vaccine,that we have now,is weakened virus of H1N1,generated in the hen's egg,so it doesn't give to you a 100% protection". So,it's up to you,but we did't do this vaccination.
I'm very sorry for your close-one,which is a cancer,hope,everything will be all right.

Hejsan Anette, har du några uppgifter om när ungdomar får vaccinera sig? Dvs åldern 15 till 25? Har inte hittat något någonstans på nätet. Med detta sagt har jag inga åkommor (astma, hjärtfel osv) utan vill vaccinera mig i förebyggande syfte.
ReplyDeleteJag hoppas du får ta vaccinet snarast då :)Förresten när jag tänker på det så kanske du kan gå till en av vaccinations klinikerna. Jag tror det finns en på lasarettet i hbg. Det är dem som ger alla vaccin när man ska ut och resa etc. Jag tror dock man behöver beställd tid och det kostar förmodligen specialist avgift men du kanske kan gå "runt" systemet på det sättet.

Jag brukar reagera dåligt på influensor. Du borde ta det, särskilt med tanke på att du är på resande fot ofta och sångerska. :)

ReplyDeleteWell, I thhink it really depends on what you're working or how one is living. If you have a job where you have to meet many people I think it might be definitely better to get the vaccine. The same thing is if one has already an illness- or if you said, if one who is close to you has a disease. Then it definitely is better to get the vaccine. But if that is not he case I am not sure what is the best.
It was very interesting to read in the comments how is dealt with this flu in other countries! Many people here in Germany first didn't want to get vaccined. So doctors didn't order enough of the vaccine. But now most of the doctors are out of vaccine. Many people changed their opinion after some people here died of the flu.
By the way: I passed my exam! Yeah!

For some people it's good to have the vaccin for the swine flu.. But I've had it.. A month ago I had the swine flu.. and I called the doctor and all he said was: Stay inside, don;t make any contact with other people.. after a week it will be better... So I did.. I had fever for 3 days, and after a week I was feeling better :) I was really sick that week, it was worse then the normal flu.. But I think people are overreacting now.. As I said.. some people really need this vaccins, but when you're a healthy person like me.. It's not so worse as they all say.

My wife caught Swine Flu over the summer. Said it wasn't as bad as normal flu... just it itched a bit when the little curly tail appeared.

ReplyDeleteI take a Vitamin C tablet each day. Drink lots of Rooibos Tea (strong antioxidant).Finally and most importantly- I gargle with a strong Mouthwash such as Listerene at least once a day. I found that all my colds/flu started in the throat and this seems to kill off those nasty germs early !!

ReplyDeleteAbout the person near to you that have cancer, well I know that's hard, my aunt had cancer last year, Thank God now the worst is gone, she just have to go to the doctor every month, you know just to check that everything is normal and this thing don't come back, In fact she lost one of her breasts as a result of this. But she is soo happy, and she doesn't care about this "little" thing, as she call it, she says everything is ok as I getting better, so for me she is a fighter!!!!
In this moment I'm getting really sick and I think is not "normal", since I had headache, my throat really hurts, but the curious thing it's that I don't have, yet, anything of flu, so that for me it's wear, maybe it's just that my body is tired, cause in this day I didn't sleep as I have to do it all because I'm studying for exams!!! And outside it's so cold, well you know cold here in Mexico it's to be in 16ºC, and this is for sure the most cold yeat we ever had!!! hehe ;)
so I wll go to the doctor just for check and see that everything its all right!!!

Yes, we will really never know what's the best when it comes to things like that... I'm not afraid of the flu, though I didn't get the vaccine... At our school, a few students got the flu, two of them are in my own class...
The whole thing is a bit strange, but I'm sure it'll be over soon...

Being a medical student, I'm often in contact with doctors. The general opinion is that this flu is no worse than an ordinary flu, only spreading faster.
ReplyDeleteIt may be dangerous for people who have cronic severe illness and pregnant women. The vaccination campaign is mainly due to avoid an excessive spreading of the pandemic flu and to try to contain it. In this way, people who risk complications should be safe and also the risk of virus recombination and mutations should be contained. However , I think it's useless to do in healthy people. It's just like a normal flu, you can choose to take a vaccine or not. I guess it's up to you, if you are close to someone who has some severe disease you might do it. It's too early to prove if it works or not, but the vaccine should be safe (except for some rare complications) .
Media exhagerated this swine flu thing a lot.
i got the swine flu vaccine i was really nervous though cuz its a new medicine and i dont think that its perfected yet. luckily my arm hasnt turned an abnormal color yet!: ) so thats good hey did u know somewhere in california there is a place where some nurses were giving out the h1n1 vaccine for free it was a drive thru.
