I have never been a person who have a lot of patience and the ability of waiting for things to happen in my life. I am a "doer" and if I want something I want it now!
But over the years I have learned that some things are worth waiting for and a lady once told me:
Remember: for a thing to happen in YOUR life it might first have to happen in HIS life or HER life. Universe spins around and we are all connected, which means my destiny sometimes need to wait a little to happen, due to things that need to happen in the other persons life that are involved.
As an example I can say that the wait for getting to be the singer in Nightwish showed me how much patience I needed to have and it was really a good lesson to learn;=) 1,5 year of "maybe" and can I get it or not???
But in the end it was all worth the wait and today I try to think that everything comes to me when its time for it.
At the moment I am waiting for something and have waited for quite some time now. Every day I check my email - hoping for THAT email... but nothing yet.
Today might be that day, I really hope so! But if not, I´ll give my patience another round and just continue to look at the email for another week;=)

As much as I love NW, I confess that the fact they kept you waiting for so long really horrifies me. It was incredibly rude and inconsiderate, because effectively, they were expecting you to keep your life on hold. If I did that to a potential employee, MY boss would fire me!

I don't like the long wait.

ReplyDeleteYeah, 1,5 years of maybe is very long time! I haven't understood before your point of view to the singer selection. For us fans, it was also waiting that who will be the new singer. It was question only about our favourite band. But when I think how the waiting did affect on you... It was question about your possible new job! I admire your patience in that.
I'm also quite unpatient. As I have gotten older, I have learned that things won't happen when I want them to happen.
This has nothing to do with this topic, but yesterday it was snowing over 6 hours here in Finland. Now the streets and roads are all covered with snow - again. It was couple of days ago when I heard birds singing and spring feeling... And yesterday it snowed so much again. I don't understand where we can put all this snow...

Of course that must not be an excuse for us to wait all the time for things to come down from above, while we do nothing at all to make them happen... But you're a "doer" and you won't make this mistake ;-)
The message, and what I try to do myself, is: decide what you want to pursue and act, do what you can to make it happen; while doing so, be also willing to wait for the right time when it can happen, which can be later than we expect but still well worth it ;-)
So, thank you very much for reminding us of this very important thing! :-)

Since day one in school or even before that , I hated nothing in my life more than waiting , And I know how exactly it feels to wait an E-mail , and asking yourself if the message is there or not since you just sign in , And how you get disappointed when you don't find it , But its okay you'll find it just there one day while a large grin lighting your angelic face ,Remember me then ;)
ReplyDeleteHello, Anette! You're right about this thing with the waiting, that you're talking about. But I think that, just as you said, the destiny must follow its course over time, go through all the happenings and events that are meant to happen, and then finally get to you, after all the waiting and hope. We are all tangled in the chain of time and we have to wait for "our turn" to come. And, in the end, the longer the wait, the bigger the appreciation and satisfaction because of the fact we were able to preserve our self control and patience.
ReplyDeleteThat being said, don't worry about the email, no matter what it is. If it's ought to happen, it will exactly at the right moment, and if it's not, an even better chance will come. :)
@starshield: I don't think the Nightwish members were trying to be "incredibly rude and inconsiderate" by making Anette wait. This is not like picking between a green sweater and a blue one. It's something you have to think a lot about, the possibilities, what you have to do next, everything that it takes in order to put a group together again. I don't think you would have been any faster in your choice.

Every two months I must go to the hospital to do blood tests and sometimes impatience kills me because I'm afraid of the outcome and hope that everything goes well.
I've understand that sometimes we just have to wait, although we are afraid and have to wait too much longer =)

Gosh, 1,5 years!! I would be MAAAAD.... :D :D But the end was good, I'm so incredibly happy that they chose you. I love DPP and I loved your concert in Oslo and I felt like I was 15 again when I stood in front of a music store and waited to see you and get your autograph. :)) And I almost die waiting for the next album!

I searched for a new job/studies and I'm waiting for the answer. :P I try not to have too high hopes, but it's difficult. But at least I know I don't have to wait for 1,5 years before they let me know. ;)

But unfortunetely we can do nothing to make it quicker so sometimes it's better to relax and just wait - it will happen eventually. There's no need to be nervous, because it's not healthy.

ReplyDeleteI'm not a patient person either. If I have something to do for example I'm not patent enough to wait till next day to complete. One of the reasons I slept so little during Tuomas' website creation. I cannot stand sitting doing nothing. When news was quiet or I was waiting for Tuomas to get intouch (which teaches you patience heh he warned me about it though) I started a new design for the site, now I'm designing the new Nightwish uk site and also been chatting with Hagenburg. I have to be kept busy. Ive been waiting for something to arrive in the mail now for 3 weeks hehe it's got me demented.
I now have to finish preparations for London over the weekend.

I know the feeling, but I happen to be very patient because that’s the only choice I have against things out of my control. I’m sure your email will come. You just have to concentrate on other things in the meantime, like writing to us! ;-P

My thoughts now are addresses to those applicants who didnt succed in becoming the new Nightwish singer...what about them? How do you think they dealed with this? I have always been curious about their voices...did you ever get the chance to listen to the finalists?
I believe they weren't destined for NW..but my thought is, like Abba says, the winner takes it all? And what about the other?

Tell me about it! I have no patience at all. I worry about time passing me by and never achieving my dreams. Dreams that I've had since I was a teen - becoming a successful singer and writer. I'm around the same age as you, Anette, and it still hasn't happened. But I'm taking small steps towards making it happen.

Like you, i was always a doer and lived my life at break neck speed until i sustained a spinal injury in 2002 at only 22 years of age. It has taken me until now just to get back on my feet without the use of a walking frame or walking stick and i'm slowly but surely using less and less toxic medications for the pain. I have even started driving again after 8 years! I never gave up, although my patience was tested constantly and is still tested everyday. If i have learned ANYTHING out of this experience, it is that i can only control how i react to life and that life will teach me time and time again that i need to just be patient for time/life to show me the way. All things come to pass. Be it good or bad, it is just the way you look at it. When it comes down to it, we just have to be ready and accept how it is delivered to us.
Thank you for sharing your words of wisdom with us Anette. I feel many people of today forget that some things are not instant and the things in life that REALLY matter, that are truly worth having, are things you need to not only wait for but work hard at. Never give up or lose hope! I hope you find out your news, good news hopefully, soon.
I also hope to see you guys in Melbourne on your next tour. I wasn't able to make it in 2008 as i had an injury set back and gave my tickets away. SO i am patiently awaiting your next tour, hopefully it brings you all down here again. ;-)

ReplyDeletetoday i'm waiting for a message of my best friend, if he really stopps his last relationship finally.
the person was so mean to him, cheated on him, lied to him so often (and i'm afraid that this will happen again and again) and so i'm terribly worried, because it's the last meeting and the last "big talk".
he said so often, that he's going to end it, but the other one is so manipulative...
this really hurts me, so it's some kind of decision day, if i'm staying at his side or not.
the last three months were so intense and like hell and i supported him so much, but now i feel like it's better to take a bit more care for me again. maybe this is a weakness, but in the end and after all this is not my fight and not my life.
so... lots of patience needed. and luck and hope.

It's not a matter of life or death, and it's not actually the wait that bugs me, rather than the fact that I'm in doubts about whether that responce will ever arrive. I don't know if I can be as patient as you though; it's getting too long and sometimes I wonder if it's worth it and why I even bother... Do you think I should be more patient?

I think there are certain degrees of patience... I'm really impatient in the short term, like I went out with my boyfriend today and he was like an hour late and eventually I was like 'oh for crying out loud!' But at the same time I'm waiting to see if I'm going to get places at some universities and I've had to learn to be patient because some of them are taking AGES!

ReplyDeleteI am a "doer" too but life has tought me that things you really want come when you expect it the least. However, you have to work on it and make your best so it arrives faster.
Almost a year ago I was suffering a lot of stress: I had lost too many kilos, I couldn't sleep, I was depressed... What I wanted and needed the most was a new job, related to my studies and with a boss that really appreciated all the efforts I had made. And finally the longed phone-call arrived. But for that I had answerred all the job offers that I found interesting enough and did my best during the interviews. When I thought I would have to stay all my live in the same horrible job, they called me from my actuall company where I have finally found what I wanted.
I just have told you all this so you understand why I say that it would come when you expect it the least. Try to forget it and one day, when you check your e-mail, you would find what you have been waiting for. I am sure of that. Be patient Nettie!

ReplyDeleteI really liked this post. Those words from that lady... I should write them down to check them every morning, it's be a really good way to start my day. Usually I'm very patient for most of things, but for others I'm also a "doer" and can't wait to do it.
I hate that feeling of having to wait for a call, a cell phone texting, a message, email... it gets on my nerves! Because I start to think: did my call/message arrive correctly? the other person doesn't want to answer? (why?). A thousand of things around my head, so I just start to work on something else to get my mind busy, and if I have the headphones with the iPod music, much better :)

ReplyDeleteThat's one of the best pieces of advice (I guess one could call it advice..) that I've read I think. It's very true now that I've thought about it :)
I think being patient is one of the hardest things, or rather, it's one of the hardest things to do when it concerns specific things. I am personally always impatient for summer to come, because it's usually the only time of year that I get to go visit my family and friends back home. And being patient is always harder when it's coming close to the end or finish. Like me, when it's only a couple weeks from the summer, I can't wait! :P
Ah well, as they say, "Patience is a virtue"

I am also one of those that want things to happen immediately....I guess if we got everything we wanted when we wanted it....we wouldn't appreciate it as much. To me as I get older - life is a book and every chapter has a meaning.

I have an enormous amount of patience with small children especially my little students at school but OH BOY when it comes to our impending move back to my home in New Zealand from China it can't come soon enough! We have done everything we can at the moment nothing more to do for a few weeks but I am 'champing at the bit'!! Its not that I dont like China I just want to go home :))The Wait is hard.
