Tattoos already 1907;=)


Was surfing at another really nice blog called Fashion Affair I like and found this photo. This is taken in 1907!!! And the lady has some really beautiful tattoos;=) So it surely is an ancient art form.

    I dont actually know why..but I think I would never take a tattoo...maybe its because they are so permanent..
    But if I did it would be a name of my child or something else as dear..something I would love for ever.. =)

    I agree with you Anette, it looks hot with that dress =).
    When I saw that Lady's photo it reminded me of Kat Von D, she has also all her body covered with tattoos and she's a great artist =).

    Yayyy,that's great!!!! I suppose back then a tattoo meant a lot for the people and it hasn't been just a fashion but had a deep meaning.Unfortunately,so many young people are making tattoos just to look 'cool'. :( That's why it's great to know you're not doing it just for the sake of having it :):):) And all your tattoos are so beautiful and stylish!

    Wow is amazingly beautiful. I wonder if the woman was criticized by the society of the day or if they appreciated the effect. 1907 woman were still more or less the propery of men and it was shunned for a woman to do anything different or 'unlady like' so this woman must have been very forward thinking and very brave ;=)

    I think the lady had to be really brave to get such an extensive tattoo. This time period was heavilly conservative but it was a good thing that there were people who broke the boundaries.

    I wouldn't have known that she has tattoos if you wouldn't have told it here. It looks like a lace top or something.
    I think people think that tattoos are very fresh way of doing art. Even I have thought it. Tattoos probably weren't so popular or known back then in 1907.

    Is there some place you wouldn't get a tattoo? You know, like the whole arm. I hope you never tattoo your face, because you look beautiful. =)

    Huh...
    So many tattoos in 1907??? I think that poor woman had to stay in house all day because I know that people in 1907 weren't so open to new things like we are now. And I also wonder who tattooed her... Probably not her husband... :D

    I've read the comments of those that were awake before me, and I have to say this: if YOU feel that you should get more tattoos, then by all means, get them, and be happy. Your body is a canvas, decorate it like a work of art :)

    First I wanted to say that I found your new tatto utterly cute ^^ It fits perfectly in that area ^^ and wow, that woman in the picture was really brave...and to think that at the same time Picasso was painting "Les Demoiselles D'Avignon", revoluzionating the world, breaking all the rules of the classic old school of art with the cubism, and that woman totally unnoticed, and unaware of it was also breaking the mold... it's awesome!

    tattoos have really been around for years...and back then, they serve a deeper meaning, not unlike now where its mostly for decorative purposes or trend.

    Marie, they've been around for thousands of years. they served a spiritual purpose, most of the time. like hair dying, pretty much. it only became "trendy" in the Victorian era, I believe.

    I can only imagine the pain and after effects were bad for these ladies. In them days they didn't have much in the way of cleaning/sterilization so their needles may have been full of germs. Also, I bet the needle was much bigger and not as sharp as today so it must have hurt more when they were being pricked so these were very brave ladies indeed.

    It looks beautiful on this woman. I usually don't like tatoos in whole body or whole arm, leg, but this looks beautiful. Maybe you know with wich thing they did tatoos in this year?

    Well, tatoos were made from ancient times, using Henna paints (except they were not all-life permanent)Just take a look in ancient indian illustrations *giggles*

    Well, 1907 can't really be called "ancient", but yes, tattoos are an ancient form of art. In North Chile, 7000 year old mummies were found which had tattoos on hands and feet. Check wikipedia for more info.
