Tonight we have been at some friends home to have a little "glögg" party. Glögg is a x-mas drink a bit similar to the german glüewein and you can read more about these drinks here in wikipedia. But we also have alcohol free glögg and I drank that. I like that more than the wine glögg. Tried a new glögg with orange taste, so good;=)
To the glögg we ate ginger bread cookies and saffron buns. Also so good;=)
And today it´s Nemos "4 months birthday" and he tried some banana and liked it. First he was very sceptical but after a while he took the whole banana and tried to stuff it in with the shell and all;=)
We walked to our friends in the really cold weather and it´s not so bad as long as we have warm and protective clothes. But the wind is a bit hard on the chin and cheeks. It felt like being in the alps and that´s weird since we live so far south in Sweden. Very unusual to have such hard winters as we have had the last year and now. Weather climate seem to be changing for sure...

Happy '4 months birthday' to Nemo! So cute with the banana, he obviously likes it!
I think -10 degrees is a tad too cold! After all my moaning about not having any snow in London, it has snowed on and off all day and there was a big snow storm in the middle of the day where it was so windy. The freezing air really does hurt your cheeks!

Thanks for the tip on a holiday drink I'll give it a try! My usual during the holiday season is a big mug of hot chocolate with peppermint schnapps and a candy cane stir. An excellent cold chaser! :) Don't really care for eggnog and rum:(
Weird is the word for the weather, here it has been unseasonal, much warmer than what it should be. 13-15 degrees C for the next couple of days at least, and then colder again. Very unpredictable the weather.

ReplyDeleteMy city is totally covered in snow. Most of the schools are shut and even the University is shut for the day. The buses are not running properly and nobody is driving so it's wonderful and peaceful. I braved the snow to take some photos.
We don't normally get snow this bad here, and certainly not this early in winter.
But the snow has really hit England this week.

Oj, I love glögg, or as we Finns call it, "glögi". There's no x-mas without it :) I like traditional glögg.

Saffransbullar (eller lussekatter) är oxå jättegott. Pepparkakor oxå. Alla dessa tre grejer, det är riktig jul det!
Här där jag bor (i Mellansverige typ) är det minst lika kallt som du verkar ha det, om inte kallare. -23 grader senast jag kolla! Så jag håller med dig, det känns som att vara i Alperna, eller Nordpolen kanske ;) Jag gillar vintern, men inte när det är såhär jäkla kallt xD

But I would like to share with you a traditional Xmas drink from the island of Puerto Rico that we take for granted also in this time of year. It is called "Coquito" and here is the recipe for making one and using Rum is optional also. Well, I hope all is good for you and the family and I send you bright blessings during this holiday season to all.
[Coquito Recipe "Puerto Rican Rum Eggnog"]
Coquito is a traditional punch served at Xmas and New Years celebrations. The drink is similar to eggnog with rum. This particular recipe does not call for raw eggs. Nor does it call for you to crack open a fresh coconut. It's a very simple mixed drink.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 1 hour
Total Time: 1 hour, 10 minutes
Ingredients:
2 15-ounce cans cream of coconut
2 14-ounce cans condensed milk
6 ounces white rum (use less if you like)
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 teaspoon coconut (or vanilla) extract
Preparation:
1. Mix all ingredients in a blender.
2. Refrigerate for about an hour before serving. Serve cold.
Serves: This recipe makes about 36 ounces.
