I found some photos from last year, do you remember? We had snow here and it has been so many years since we had that much snow before so it was quite amazing. Normally here in the south of Sweden we dont get that much snow but it seems the weather climate is changing here and therefore we will have snow more and more.
Since I have lived here in the south of Sweden all my life I have never been skiing downhill but did it for the first time in 2000 and then I have done it some more but i am really bad at it. But I think it´s such fun and wish I could learn it better and better. But this year we wont go to the north for skiing. Maybe next year when Nemo are bigger.
Do you all know how to ski??

ReplyDeleteI have no clue how to ski, I really want to learn. There is a dry ski slope only 30 mins from where I live. Perhaps I should visit.
I was talking to my friends in Finland this morning and they have snow past their ankle, just all of a sudden.
Just typical English rain here heheh.

Mayonnaise Jar & 2 Cups of Coffee
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls. He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.
The professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the golf balls. He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.
The professor next picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else. He asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous . . . "yes."
The professor then produced two cups of coffee from under the table and poured the entire contents into the jar, effectively filling the empty space between the sand. The students laughed. "Now," said the professor, as the laughter subsided. "I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The golf balls are the important things; God, family, children, health, friends and favorite passions, things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full. The pebbles are the other things that matter; like your job, house, and car. The sand is everything else; the small stuff."
"If you put the sand into the jar first", he continued "there is no room for the pebbles or the golf balls. The same goes for life. If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. So pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out to dinner. Play another 18. There will always be time to clean the house and fix the disposal. Take care of the golf balls first, the things that really matter. Set your priorities, the rest is just sand."
One of the students raised her hand and inquired what the coffee represented. The professor smiled. "I'm glad you asked; it just goes to show you that no matter how full your life may seem, there's always room for a couple of cups of coffee with a friend."

Wow! I'm so jealous! I love snow! I wish it would snow here.
ReplyDeleteYou're very lucky that you have at least tried skiing, I've never even tried it, I always end up living in places where it doesn't snow a lot, which is very saddening for me, because my home country is Russia, and it snows a lot there.
Oh! And this is probably Nemo's first snow ever! Did he react to it in any way?

Hard question for a brazilian, hehe... Here we don't have snow, so only very rich people, who can afford a travel to somewhere that snows and pay for ski lessons can ski... So I can't ski, but I think I would be afraid... Seems dangerous and I'm a bit coward, hihi... I don't like high speeds =O (and that's a problem while driving... Hihi)

Hi Anette! I was 30 years old when I bought my first pair of slalom ski. :) And I'm not good at all! But I think it's really fun! ;)) We don't have so good places here in eastern Finnmark, so we use to drive to Levi in Finland. And I hope we could take a holiday trip to Åre soon! I've been there only in summer time, but it must be a paradise for anyone who likes slalom! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm so happy to see the snow here in Finland! I'm from the Netherlands, so usually it's not really anything (Only last year it was good), and now with my exchange year in Finland the cold season starts great! Immidiately went outside to make a dozen of pictures :D
I hope to learn snowboarding this year (Have you ever tried it?), with the camp in Lapland with most of the other exchange students in Finland!

ReplyDeleteWe got a lot of snow yesterday, too. The day before it was no snow at all and overnight the whole world turned white. That's lovely because as in southern Sweden, here in southern Finland we haven't had snowy years lately (except last year).
I really suck at skiing and also hate it from the bottom of my heart. When I was at school we had lots of hills and nature near the school so skiing was a must, but I didn't know how to. I was very scared when we had to slide down the hills. I'm kinda clumsy so anything with high places and/or high speed makes me worry.
If I'll ever have children I need to get over these futile fears and hates to not pass them to my children, so maybe I need to get skis and start practising already. ;)

ReplyDeleteI don't know how to ski because I live in a region where it doesn't snow that much nowadays. That's bad because I love snow. :( We only get the cold, grey, rainy weather most of the time. A white christmas would be nicer than the usual grey one.

Now when I think about it, I can't remember the last time I skied... It was probably more than 5 years ago. I think it's a wonderful sport though. We Finns are good at it even though some of us don't like it anymore.

ReplyDeleteI defenitely remember the snow of last year. Also here in Belgium it has been many years that we have gotten so many snow. Some winters, we only see snow for like 2 days and then it melts away. But last year, it stayed for several weeks and more than just one period.
I liked it, but it also caused a lot of problems because we are really not used to so much snow and cold. We totally ran out of salt to spread on the streets for our safety. I think we even tried to buy some from other country's. But ofcourse they also needed their salt. So the little villages didn't get anymore salt to spread. Like the village were I live. That was less fun. And a lot of us also don't have the habit of getting winter tires. So not very safe. Now we have problems like streets that are pretty much damaged. And the government doesn't have lots of money to fix it.
But still, I like snow :-)
And I've never skied before. But one day I will try it!

ReplyDeleteI know how to ski since I'm really young... I don't leave near the snow, and mountains, but since my 1 year my parents bring me to ski, so, when i was 3 years, I begin to so on ski... I've stopped it for some years, but I dream to go again at the mountain during the winter... =D

ReplyDeleteI did ski when I lived in Copper Mountain Colorado. I've a Swedish Uncle that resides in that state, he's a custom house builder there. But that was a while ago.
Don't know if I still can downhill ski, probably not to well anyway.I do cross country ski in Central Park occasionally. It can be fun too!:)

ReplyDeleteThe snow pics look beautiful! I love the snow, but unfortunately we very rarely get it in Ireland, but we got it last winter, so I am happy about that! :)
I have always wanted to go skiing, but my family really hates the cold, so I've never gone with them. (we don't have anywhere to ski here in Ireland, just a few dry slopes, and it's not really the same I think) But there's going to be a school trip next year to America to go skiing, so I'm looking forward to that a lot! :)

I live in a ski resort town in Canada and I am probably the only person here who hates winter, snow, and who doesn't ski! I went a few times when I was young, but found it too intimidating, and now I feel like it isn't worth the risk of injury. Almost everyone I know here has had a ski injury! I used to cross country, however, but haven't been in years.

I never touch snow,only in "Serra da Estrela" snows...But is far from Lisbon and i dont have time to go there xD
