The album is of course just in the startings but I will contribute doing the songs together with the guys and I will start that immediately. Anders is thinking on his side and me here... Then we meet and try out the ideas and we´ll see what it will be like. But yeah, rocky it will be for sure. Not metal, but rock;=)
And about Nightwish, you all know I love that band and of course this is not a solo career, but an album. I cant sit and do nothing for maybe 1.5- 2 years. None of the guys can either. Marco has Tarot and several other bands and projects, Emppu Brother Firetribe and projects, Tuomas bands and projects and Jukka his merch company. So, I need something too. And I dont want another band, cause I have Nightwish. Then a solo will be just perfect. I can decide when and what I will tour or perform, all in the aspect of when Nightwish will do something new. We dont know that. Its all in Tuomas hands and he is the creator. We are the instruments.
I hope people can stop thinking that the singer CANT do anything else but the instrumentalists can. I have the same right as my fellow band members to do anything on the side when NW is not playing or touring.
I am for sure excited and I know I have my part to play with the songs and the album and I have already started thinking of songs and lyrics. It was a long time since I did songs, but I will soon be back in business;=)

It's ludicrous that some people out there don't think you should be doing something on the side like a solo album. There is no difference between your doing this project and Marco doing Tarot & Northern Kings, and Empu doing Brother Firetribe. Go you!

The last thing we want is for Nightwish to be broken apart again. But you are NOT Tarja, and certainly everyone who reads your Blog knows how dedicated you are to your fans and your music.

ReplyDeleteI haven't commented this subject yet so I say this now. I was a bit worried before when I read your solo plans. Because there's the possibility that you will love more doing your solo than playing with Nightwish. But now you told about that the other members has their own projects too so why not also you have. Of course I have known that the guys have their sideprojects too. But now I kinda realised that it's nothing bad that you have too. =)
I just don't wanna loose you as the singer of Nightwish because you're the best in that in this world. But if you start doing your own music, you could also give to Tuomas some of your material and then we could listen it on the next Nw album. =)
But of course I will wish you all the best with your solo and lots of success in that too! =)
I couldn't agree more with your point of view, Anette. I must admit that, at first, when I read about the solo album, I had a tiny tiny "panic moment" to call it so, but I banished it right away and I'm very glad we'll get the opportunity to hear your voice experimenting different styles and a wider variety of sounds and influences. I think your example with the guys' projects and side bands is very good. I personally love everything Brother Firetribe did, I know they're very different of Nightwish and that's exactly why I admire Emppu and the guys in the band so much, because of the variation. Also, the band Tuomas played in some time ago, For my Pain, is also wonderful and very inspired. So I can't wait to see what your creative spirit will breed, compositionally and how you'll build the songs around your voice to fit it perfectly. I hope the collaboration with Mr. Anders will work out really well and something very nice and personal to you will come out of it.

I didn't know you will/want to make solo album. ;=) Of course you have exactly the same rights than other band members too!
ReplyDeleteSome people maybe could think if you make a solo album it will mean you wanna left the band and you're not fully involved in Nightwish. But why should it go so? And of course if you'll have 1,5-2 year break I so understand you wanna do something during this time and a solo album might be a great alternative. ;=) (And as you said, it's an album, not a career)

I think its wonderfull that you're going to do a solo album. It's an excellent way to fill up some spare time when nightwish is not on tour.
A solo album also gives alot of perspective about a singer what he/she likes to perform besides the band. I tihnk its awesome that you've chosen rock. I really cant wait to hear it :)

Especially after meeting you at the Houston, Texas show in May.You were so sweet and you blew me away with your performancce on stage. Point is not only am I a fan of the band as a whole but the individual members as well. ReplyDeleteMany things went through my mind when I read this blog entry and after reading it again, I went thinking about what to write down and how to do it. First of all I would like to let you know that it sounds very exciting that you are going to make your own solo album and I have faith that you will do a good job. Wheter the genre will be rock, metal or anything else. Also, you have indeed as many rights as your fellow band members of Nightwish. I do not see why they can have 'side projects' and you can not.
We do know that you like it to be part of Nightwish and you are doing a very good job. And you do not have to 'excuse' yourself by saying that this is only an album and not your solo career. If it would be the beginning of your solo career, then good luck! You will do fine and people will, wheter it is out of interest or out of curiosity, listen to your album anyway. And I can understand that it would be great fun to create songs the way you would like it to be done. Now you are the creator with some instruments. ;-) Also, there is no predecessor people can compare you with, because it is you and you only. It is kind of sad that you still seem to be blamed for the 'mistakes' other band members (might have) made in the past before they even knew about your existence. For example, there are people out there who are completely in awe with Tuomas and disliking you for singing the older Nightwish songs, having Tarja Turunen fired, taking over her place, etc. That is not really fair of those people, to put it mildly. You did not write the famous letter, you did not make the decision that has been made, you were not even there and it is quite unfortunate that people seem to bash you for all this and for not copying Tarja Turunen's style of clothes or singing.
To me it is a little bit like getting fired when being a secretary for example. The old one leaves, a new one will come. There will not be such a big fuss about it then. Sure, there are things the previous secretary did differently, but they are both doing it fine, but in different ways. There are songs of Nightwish that I think do not suit your voice very well, but it will most likely be the same the other way around. And me having that opinion with some songs is only a matter of personal preference / taste, because you can sing them well. You have been right to 'apply for the job' as the new leadsinger of Nightwish, since there was a free place. If all the negative ones about you are so unhappy with you being part of Nightwish, they should not take it out on you, but on the ones who have chosen you.
Hopefully you will not misinterpret the things I just wrote, but I noticed I find it hard to express my opinion about all this to you, especially as a short summary. An opinion that is more to the side of Tarja Turunen. And that is because of all I have seen, read and heard in the media from both sides. I do think that none of the stories told are 100% true or complete, so it is not right to judge anyone in this situation and I try not to. But there is one person who can and should not be blamed for anything regarding the sad Nightwish past and that person is you. Just know that you should do anything you would like to do with your solo album. If you feel like recording all the songs in a bus driving on a poor surface, go ahead. As long as you like it, it is fine. If people would like to complain about you and your work, they will do so anyway. It would be a good thing if people are finally going to give their opinions based on what you do though and not based on what they think you should do, because your predecessor used to do it (that way).

Look, I have this "friend" and he is supposed to be a NW fan too, but we were talking a few days ago and he said:
- You know, all this Anette´s Solo Album stuff is just the beggining; you´ll see, after this, there´s going to be problems in the band and it will finally dissapear...I´m sure...
Of course I did not pay attention to what he said...but since then he has been bothering me with the same thing, and now I´m worried about that...
Tuomas once said that he has met some people to whom Nightwish means so much that he cannot even understand it himself...and, trust me, I´m one of them...:´(
