I have had this creativity urge in my body some days now and I just feel I need to get it out... I wanna put some new wallpaper up on my wall...I wanna paint a big painting...I wanna fix things...God, I am restless...
I really need to go out and buy some wallpaper...but I dont know how to put them up...hmmm..need to search the internet for tips...
Is anyone out there a great wallpaper-fixer???? Give me tips then so I know what to think about and how to put them up;=)

Anette, I am like you and I get urges to do things and a newly decorated room is such a nice feeling of achievement when it's done :=).
ReplyDeleteI am useless at doing wallpaper but I know that this site www.videojug.com shows little video's of how to do things like hang wallpaper and what to do when doing corners etc. I hope this will help.

You have two different types of glue, one that you can put on the wall and attach the wallpaper to it (easier to start with if you have never done it before) and the other you apply directly to the wallpaper itself. This is quite messy if you have not done it before and you could end up with glue and wallpaper all over you.
It is actually easier to explain and show it to you in person but since this does not work for geographical reasons =) I attach a link for you which shows you the (simple) steps, this is with glue that you apply to the back of the wallpaper:

If you can buy a glue that you can put on the wall before you put up the wallpaper it will be more easy for you though.
There are lovely designs of wallpapers out there, but if you are the type that gets tired of designs quickly I would really recommend you to buy glass fibre wallpapers, they come in different patterns and can be (should be actually) covered in wall paints many times, over and over again. This way you can keep the pattern but change the colour.
The standard wallpaper must be removed if you are tired of it (which is messy and time consuming), glass fibre wall paper can just be changed in colour.
The most important thing in hanging up standard wallpaper is being generous with the glue and giving it enough time to become soft when you have folded the wallpaper (it is also shown in the link). Make sure that the wallpaper is always longer than your wall, everything that is not needed can be cut off later.
By the way, I love the girly style picture you posted. This design was my initial idea for our guest bedroom but I ended up giving it a blue and white ocean, sand and see design.

ReplyDeleteHave you thought about actually painting a mural on the wall? Or will your landlord(if you don't own the place) allow you to paint the wall? You should be able to, always a good alternative to wallpaper.
Heck, if i was brave enough, my room would be black right now, but my dad would KILL me, and I like life too much to do something THAT risky. =)
I'm restless right now, too, even though i walked for more than 3 miles today in the heat, i should be worn out, but nah, I've got far too much energy and it sucks, it's pitch-black outside and the police would most likely think I'm drunk or stoned if i was to walk at this hour. :P

I have another idea for you (I really should go back to work but you infected us all with your creative outburst, now we all want to start painting and decorating =) haha), OK here it comes:
ReplyDeleteIf wallpapering is too much work (it is after all very time consuming) but you still want to use a certain wallpaper type that you have seen in your flat you can also buy big picture frames, cut out the wallpaper the size of the frame and hang them next to each other, it is really brilliant, especially when you use different but matching colours of the same thing, here is something similiar to give you an idea what I mean:

ReplyDeleteI've tried it one time, but it was no good idea. I was just ready and viewed my work, and then all came off the wall on my head. I was so angry, but after a few minutes I had a laughing fit ;-) However, I wouldn't dream of doing that again. Then I have called my uncle who is a painter and he did a grateful work. But I like the idea of Katrin. That's a very good alternative.

Hm vet inte något om wallpapers tyvärr men om du känner dig kreativ och eftersom du gillar kläder rekommenderar jag polyvore.com. Där kan man skapa olika så kallade sets med kläder, fotografier, musik och annat. Det är otroligt kul och det blir små "konstverk" i slutändan. :)

I just redecorated my room a bit. I changed the curtains and I'm going to change the room more later. I get easily bored to my room ;) so I need change every now and then.

ReplyDeleteWhy don't you use paint? You can draw the wall in light blue and then you can decorate it with a sponge and blue paint.. it's only an idea.. :)

peel the old wallpaper right off.
Well of course you need glue,
and that scraping
tool(I don't remember what it's called)to
make sure you get it flat
with no bumps on your wall.
Unless you want that some people do.
It gives the wall texture.
My mum just told me at our old house,
the people before us put wallpaper
in the kitchen, because
they wanted to cover up the mirrors.
So at the top of the walls there was mirrors
all around the room,
and they just put wallpaper over it...weirdos,
but whatever, I would have left the mirrors.
But if you don't get a clear idea on doing
the wallpaper- get a huge canvas,
paint it, and hang it up.
If you're not artistic that way,
make it a family thing
where you all just throw and splatter
paint all over the canvas, then hang that up.
Hope some of that helps- now you've
got me wanting to go do that painting idea!

I am not a fall of wallpapers to be honest. It goes off the wall after a few years.. unless You prefer to have a wallpaper!
2 years ago we had an apartment renovation and we just painted and glued decorations on the walls. It looks really good!
I think the best way to make the right decision is to talk with the pro, as you mentioned ;)
Or if you want a really personal pattern you can always buy a wallpaper with no design on it and once it is on the walls paint on it a design of your own ;)

Hi Anette, my mother-in-law has akways wallpapered for me. She claims you cannot hang paper alone. You must have an extra set of hands to keep straight lines and anchor yor paper when smoothing out bubbles. She is a very determied decorator and pastes even pre-pasted papers. No paper has ever lifetd for me that she has hung. I hope Sweedish contactors make straighter walls than California builders do. Happy hunting, and Ill ask my mother-in-law what brands hang best with the least shrinking. Maybe you'll have them in Sweeden too!
