In midsummer we build a midsummer pole, its a pole which are dressed with newly picked flowers.
Then we dance around this pole and sing various swedish songs, one of the typical ones is "Små grodorna" (little frogs in english) and this songs was the one I sang with the people in Pori. They sing this one in Finland too;=)

Swedish people seems to be very close to nature, one day i watched a doc about life in Sweden, and i felt it was such a nature-respect and calm country.

ReplyDeleteSpecial Midsummer night. It's cloaely connected to love, couple and marriage and matchmaking. Elders call it as an Eastern Valentine day. Girls or young women make daisy chains and throw it on a lake or river waters and young men try to pick them up. Afterwards they look for the authors of the daisy chains and see if they like eachother! It's a very traditional way of celebrating Midsummer night. It doesn't happen in the cities anymore but at least the tradition is still alive!
I think Northern and Eastern Europe have similar ways of celebrating the Midsummer :D
